“stop…stand…breathe and take a moment to think of all the things that make you smile."
My cups are created using a method l have developed to optimise the well-worn texture of holding a piece that calms and centres you -I thrown a basic shape on the wheel, attach a handle then start carving into the whole shape to create a form your hand wants to wrap around and not let go. Once l am happy with the shape l clean and set to one side and start on the next. Once l have finished carving, then cleaned l decorate by hand-painting and etching in the design using a technique called sgraffito on each cup (unless of course it is a dotty cup then l just paint). Once art work is finished they are put to one side for two weeks to dry thoroughly, then and only then they are ready for their first of two firings -a bisque followed by a glaze fire. After the final fire l inspect pieces and then (and only then) they are finally ready…from my hands to yours!
